Manama, Bahrain: On the sidelines of Gateway Gulf 2026, Batelco by Beyon and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) have announced an expansion of their partnership to develop and modernize Batelco’s mobile broadband network across the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the announcement made in the presence of H.E. Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Chairman of Beyon Group.

The collaboration combines Ericsson’s Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions and cloud-based core network technologies to enhance network coverage, capacity and performance. It also includes testing Ericsson’s AI-native Scheduler for Link Adaptation, an AI-powered RAN solution that helps the network adjust the amount of data transmitted to devices in response to changing radio conditions, with the aim of improving download efficiency and data throughput.

This initiative supports Batelco’s ambition to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity and enhanced digital experiences for consumers and businesses, while preparing its network for the future of sixth-generation (6G) technologies in the Kingdom.

As part of the expansion, Batelco will deploy Ericsson’s latest RAN solutions, including high-performing Massive MIMO systems, which help improve download performance and network energy efficiency while reducing equipment footprint. The deployment will enhance coverage and capacity, supporting more stable connectivity and improved mobile network experience.

In parallel, Batelco will modernize its core network with Ericsson’s cloud-native dual-mode 5G Core solution, including upgrades to the packet core and Unified Data Management systems. Batelco will also develop its cloud infrastructure by transitioning from NFVi to Ericsson Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution, ensuring it is fully prepared for the next phases of cloud-native transformation. The modernization will help Batelco manage growing data demands and deliver more reliable digital services, while providing a flexible foundation for advanced connectivity services.

Maitham Abdulla Batelco by Beyon CEO, commented: “Our continued investment in expanding and modernizing our network reflects our commitment to delivering an exceptional connectivity experience across the Kingdom of Bahrain. By enhancing coverage and capacity while deploying advanced technologies, we are building a more efficient network that meets the evolving needs of consumers and businesses. Our collaboration with Ericsson reinforces our commitment to supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain’s digital transformation ambitions.”

Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf Region, says: “Our collaboration with Batelco brings together advanced radio solutions, AI-enabled capabilities and cloud-native technologies to enhance network performance and customer experiences. By expanding connectivity, strengthening 5G standalone readiness and exploring 5G-Advanced capabilities, we are supporting Batelco in building a more efficient and future-ready network, opening new opportunities for innovation and laying the foundation for 6G.”

The collaboration reinforces Batelco and Ericsson’s commitment to developing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s digital infrastructure and supporting Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. By combining advanced mobile connectivity services with intelligent, cloud-native network technologies, the companies are contributing to a future-ready network capable of meeting the Kingdom’s evolving digital needs.
